The Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) is home to one of the most prominent member organizations of model train collectors in the world. This activity invites LCCA Junior Members to participate in a fun, hands-on family project. Kids will design and decorate their very own Christmas-themed Flat Car and submit a photo for a chance to win prizes.

The Lionel Collectors Club of America is thrilled to announce the update and release of three cornerstone collections in our Digital Archives: the complete four‑volume Holtmann Consumer Catalog Archives (1900–1995), the fully restored Osterhoff Postwar Instruction Sheets Volumes 1–4, and the complete run of Lionel Consumer Catalogs from 1996–2010. Together, these releases span more than a century of Lionel history, now presented with crisp digital reproduction, standardized navigation, and a clean, modern interface designed for effortless exploration.
As we continue our multi‑phase restoration project, please note that additional sections of the Digital Archives remain under construction and will return to the website as each collection is finalized. Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm as we rebuild this museum‑grade resource for all Lionel enthusiasts.
Introduction - Lionel Trains has reached out to the LCCA looking for creative ideas for their next Christmas Flat Car. They’re hoping an LCCA Junior member can design a prototype that might inspire a future Lionel Christmas release. Your mission—if you choose to accept it—is to create your very own Christmas Flat Car design!
Directions - Junior Members must start with a railroad Flat Car. Preferred: Lionel O-scale Flat Cars (any era) but allowed are ANY scale Flat Car — G, O, HO, OO, S, N, or Z. Also allowed: Wooden trains or toy trains (non-Lionel or battery-operated) What is not allowed: Gondolas, Cabooses, Work Cabooses, or any railcar that is not a Flat Car. Just make sure the Flat Car you pick isn’t a highly collectable one! A quick eBay search will help!
Decorate your Flat Car in any Christmas theme you choose. Make it fun, creative, and full of holiday spirit! You may use items such as, but are NOT limited to-
Your Flat Car does not need to operate. It can be a static display. To qualify for prizes, the Flat Car and/or the items placed on it must clearly represent a Christmas theme.
Divisions & Prizes - Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each division.
