As CSX began to define its own united identity, several experimental paint schemes were tried. Very few locomotives and only two GP40-2s received this first variation with the full "CSX Transportation" name in 1986. 6382 was the only ex-L&N GP40-2 to be so painted and was featured in numerous corporate advertisements early on. It continued to wear this paint in service before being renumbered 6478 around 1990. The model replicates not only the unique paint from its late 80s look but also key spotting features like the nose-mounted headlight and class lights.
