LCCA's New Flipbook Program

The LCCA announces its new flipbook program and website policy. This is good news for Electronic Members (EM's) and for all members who wish to read LCCA publications online.

It was mid 2013 when the LCCA published its first publications in flipbook formats. Prior to that, the issues were available only in PDF formats. While PDF files accomplish the task of viewing files, Flipbooks make it easier to read online publications how they were printed. Flipbooks provide several built-in options, the most used of which is the download feature. With this option, a PDF printout is provided for offline viewing or printing.

When LCCA publications went online in 2013, a few changes occurred:

  • While a choice of programs was available, the decision was made to go with the same program as used by Lionel, LLC to maintain a common visual.
  • All flipbook publications were put behind the member wall meaning that only active members had access to them.
  • As new publications came out, they were added to the website as flipbooks

The journey has not always been easy. A brief history of some of the issues:

  • Each flipbook requires 3000-4000 individual files that while created quickly by the Flipbook program, they require some time to upload to our host server.
  • Even with flipbook templates, incorrect or incomplete file transfers occur. Each flipbook publication must be created, uploaded and tested. Too frequently, errors were found and the files had to be recreated and uploaded.
  • The upload process was originally shared with two computers, requiring multiple uploads of the same issue, along with increased need for communication. The upload process is now done on one computer with the new software, greatly simplifying the uploading process.
  • The LCCA did change hosting servers in 2022. While all host servers have similar basics, each new application must be fully tested with the new server.
  • To complicate things, back in 2013, the program used was licensed with a one-time purchase. Starting in 2023, the company went to a subscription model requiring an annual subscription fee.

During the 2023-2025 period, the LCCA tried multiple flipbook programs to get the best value. During this time, some publications were online with evaluation software while the final review was being made. In December 2025, the decision was made to use an online update of the original program, now called Experios.

During the last few weeks, individual publications were updated where necessary to replace all evaluation software with the new Experios software. All new icon presentations, consistency in background, audio and user options including the download function are now quickly incorporated in all flipbook uploads.

To view our online flipbooks, just log in as a member, and at the ‘Member links’ dropdown select the digital publication you wish to read. The LCCA strives to have the best possible content, accuracy and ease of use with its website. Should you find some page or feature that does not work as expected or if you have a suggestion, please share it.
