Members arrived in Denver to blue skies, mountain views, and that familiar LCCA excitement as friends reunited and first‑timers jumped right in. The week featured four unforgettable train rides, each offering its own blend of scenery, history, and railroad charm. From sweeping mountain passes to vintage equipment and relaxed time onboard with friends, these rides quickly became the heart of the convention and the moments members talked about most.
Layouts were up and running by Tuesday afternoon thanks to the hard work of our Modular Railroad Community. FasTrack Modular Railroad Coordinator, James Petrusek teamed up with seasoned convention veterans Michael Estep, Sam Summers, and Michael Gable to build six operating railroads. Five followed LCCA’s FMRR standards, while the Wichita Toy Train Club and Museum brought a lively railroad that predates the club’s module system. Watching these layouts come together was impressive, but the real highlight was sharing our love of Lionel trains with hotel staff, families, and the public throughout the week.
Each evening offered something different. Richard Luckin delivered a wonderful presentation on the Denver & Rio Grande Snow Train, first‑timers bonded over cookies and laughs, and Bill Schmeelk’s magic show added extra fun to the Get Acquainted Party. Members enjoyed the Lionel Seminar, and the Banquet Gala wrapped the week with great company and a warm, upbeat atmosphere.
It was an amazing week of trains and camaraderie. As we say goodbye to Denver, excitement is already building for Cincinnati.
