Altitude Awareness Disclaimer for Guests Traveling to the Summit of Pikes Peak (14,115 ft)

Jan 30, 2026

Welcome aboard the Broadmoor Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway—your gateway to breathtaking views and thinner air. Please note:

  • Rapid Elevation Gain: The journey begins in Manitou Springs (~6,320 ft) and climbs over 7,700 feet in just over an hour. This dramatic ascent may affect individuals unaccustomed to high altitudes.
  • Possible Symptoms: Lightheadedness, headache, nausea, shortness of breath, and fatigue are common signs of altitude sickness. These can occur regardless of age or fitness level.
  • Precautionary Measures:
    • Hydrate generously before and during your visit.
    • Avoid alcohol and strenuous activity prior to your ascent.
    • Eat a light, balanced meal beforehand.
    • Consider spending a day or two at mid-altitude (e.g., Colorado Springs) to acclimate.
  • Special Considerations: Children, older adults, and individuals with heart, lung, or circulation conditions should consult a physician before visiting. Young children may not be able to communicate symptoms effectively.
  • Emergency Protocol: If symptoms worsen or become severe, notify railway staff immediately. Descent to lower elevation is the most effective remedy.

This experience is designed to elevate your spirit—not your risk. Please travel responsibly and enjoy the summit safely.
