If you decide to fly into Denver's Airport - DIA

Aug 20, 2025

If you’re flying into Denver for the LCCA Convention, you’ll be arriving at Denver International Airport—known locally as DIA—a facility as impressive as the Rockies it was designed to evoke. Opened in 1995 after running $2 billion over budget, it sprawls across 52.4 square miles, making it the largest airport in the U.S. by land area—big enough to fit Manhattan, San Francisco, Boston, and Miami (by city limits) inside its property2. Its iconic white, tent-like roof is made of Teflon-coated fiberglass “as thin as a credit card”, with 34 peaks meant to resemble both snowcapped mountains and Native American teepees. DIA boasts the longest public-use runway in North America at 16,000 feet, and it’s one of the few airports where you can step outside pre-flight—three outdoor patios offer mountain views, pet relief areas, and even fire pits1. Art lovers will find murals, sculptures, and the infamous 32‑foot‑tall blue Mustang with glowing red eyes—nicknamed “Blucifer”—greeting visitors at the entrance. And for the curious, yes, there are underground tunnels… but they’re for baggage, not secret bunkers (probably). #LCCADenver
