Message from the President

LCCA Is Coming to Town
…Perhaps to a town near you. Come and meet your all-volunteer management team of the Lionel Collectors Club of America when we are in your part of the country. The LCCA is committed to helping introduce the club and Lionel toy trains to a generation that may not have grown up playing with Lionel trains as children. LCCA will staff a booth at these events:

  • TrainFest in Milwaukee, WI
    November 14 & 15, 2009
  • World’s Greatest Hobby on Tour in Seattle-Tacoma, WA
    November 21 & 22, 2009
  • World’s Greatest Hobby on Tour in Washington, DC
    January 23 & 24, 2010
  • World’s Greatest Hobby on Tour in Long Beach, CA
    February 13 & 14, 2010
  • World’s Greatest Hobby on Tour in Denver, CO
    February 20 & 21, 2010
We will travel all around this great country during the next few months. You’ll find us at a booth adjacent to the Lionel train layout and display. As we like to say, “Lionel is the COMPANY that makes the trains, and we are the CLUB that plays with the trains.” See the phenomenal Lionel layout that was on display during our 39th annual Convention in Sacramento, CA, last July. Bring your children or a friend and introduce them to the magic of the train hobby and the camaraderie of the LCCA. We’ll welcome them into the club as new members of the best toy train club on the planet.

Denver Convention Registration
In the December issue of The Lion Roars, you will find the first registration opportunity for our 40th annual Convention to be held in Denver, CO, July 25-31, 2010. Tip: Register for tours early because they fill up fast, and we handle registrations on a first-come, first-served basis. Because of space limitations, once an activity is filled up, there is nothing we can do to provide additional capacity. We anticipate a large turnout, so I suggest that you also make room reservations early at the Denver Marriott Tech Center Hotel.

LCCA on Facebook
We recently created a new Lionel Collectors Club of America Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=117030301528&ref=ts. The purpose of this page is to open another pathway for communication with Junior Members and Regular Members. This one-way communication network will keep members better informed and provide current and exciting news about the club. Parents, please be involved with your children on the Internet. Be careful about who is befriended on the Facebook network. As always, stay involved and oversee all Internet communication your children utilize. Member safety is our number one priority.

Make Santa Proud of You
If you are stuck and can’t think of a just-right gift for a train hobby friend or a loved one, consider giving him or her a gift of a one-year membership to the Lionel Collectors Club of America. Better yet, consider giving him or her a gift of a unique club-sponsored item: a BNSF RR Police Car, a three-piece set of Legacy town buildings, a UP Water Tower with topside flashing beacon, the Burlington #216 Train Set, or one of the five fabulously low-priced Lionel Christmas items. Order now before the supply is depleted!

As we approach this holiday season, let us all remember to keep everything in a proper perspective. There will be a lot of hustle and bustle, but stop and smell the roses—or the Lionel smoke fluid, if that is a relaxant for you. Spend time together with loved ones. Have a safe and happy Lionel-train-filled holiday season.

Best regards,

Sincerely,

Al Kolis
President & CEO
Lionel Collectors Club of America

PS. Let’s remember Rule #1: Let’s have fun! Are we having fun yet?
