July 27 - Another Great Day For the LCCA! (Brickyard 400 NASCAR Race)-Recap
On Sunday, July 27, Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) members had the experience of a life time and came to the famous
Indianapolis Motor Speedway and experienced the 21
st running of “Crown Royal 400 at the Brickyard” NASCAR race. LCCA members came from all over the country to see driver Jeff Gordon win his fifth Brickyard 400 race event. Hosted by Lionel, LCCA members got the opportunity to see and meet with the other side of Lionel’s team, their NASCAR die-cast business team consisting of Howard Hitchcock, Michael Krichgessner, Michelle Fannin, Lauren Morris and Meegan Untereker.
Members were bussed into the race via a police escort, received special parking, access to Legends Row, including a hospitality suite with food and beverages provided, and pre-race passes to the garage and pit areas. Lionel President Howard Hitchcock gave a informative and entertaining tour of the pit area just as the race cars were being inspected prior to the race. While enjoying lunch and refreshments inside of the hospitality suite, Lionel provided door prizes to lucky LCCA members who signed up for this event.
LCCA members were able to meet with the famous race car drivers as they entered the racetrack and some even were able to get some of the drivers to autograph some memorabilia for them. For me personally, this was the highlight of the day. At race time, our members journey underneath the 2.5 mile oval track to a seat in the lower paddock section where they were able to view the race “Live” and in person right alongside and close to the finish line. Our members then witnessed the action packed race until local fan favorite, Jeff Gordon crossed the finish line first and then celebrated his victory in the Winners Circle. Thanks go to Lionel’s Howard Hitchcock and their entire Lionel team for hosting such a fun and exciting LCCA Special Event! Our members loved it! This was another event which exemplifies what the Magic of Lionel is all about and another benefit for belonging to the LCCA, The Best Toy Train Club on the Planet!
