December 14/15 - LCCA at Carnegie Science Center Weekend Event (Recap)

The Lionel Collectors Club of America  (LCCA) is proud to have participated in the “Locomotion Weekend” Special Event at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh PA this past weekend December 14-15. Locomotion Weekend, Presented by Lionel, featured the Carnegie Science Center loaded with operating toy train layouts of all sizes and types, (DARE, TCA Kids Club, Pitt Division Hi-Railers etc) many of which were interactive for the kids.  Also on view in museum display cases were rare items from Lionel’s Archives - first time on public display outside of Lionel’s facilities. Of course the centerpiece of the event was the museum’s own Miniature Railroad & Village, newly reopened for the 2013 season complete with new additions.

The LCCA was there with a train table donated by Scenic Express to give a continuous hands-on demonstration  “How to get Started with Lionel Trains.” Kids of all ages had fun all day long setting up and operating the Lionel Thomas the Tank® starter set.  The kids assembled and placed the Lionel FasTrack ® on the table, put the Thomas engine, Annie and Clarabel passenger cars on the track and then operated the Lionel transformer by themselves.   You should have seen their faces light up when they were successful at operating the trains and making them change direction from forward to neutral to reverse and back.  We helped introduce the magic of Lionel trains to a new generation of kids as well as re-acquaint them with the much older children at heart, adults.

We want to welcome all of the new members who joined our club during this weekend event. I hope you will get involved, share your personal Lionel train stories with other members by writing an article for possible publication in future issues of our club publication The Lion Roars, on our website or on our facebook page www.facebook.com/LionelCollectorsClubofAmerica

Thank you Lionel, for sponsoring this wonderful event, Patty Rogers and the entire staff at the Carnegie Science Center for hosting this Lionel train filled, family friendly and most of all FUN Event!

Best regards and Happy Holidays!
