Message from the President – Serendipity

I hope you’re enjoying the summer and had a great, safe, and happy 4th of July holiday. We live in a great country, don’t we?

Time is flying by quickly, and we are fast approaching the Lionel Collectors Club of America’s (LCCA) 40th annual Convention in Denver, CO.

Sometimes the best family vacations are the ones that are arranged at the last minute. A spontaneous trip can be most exciting. Need a break from the stress of work or your daily routine? It’s not too late to get away and have an invigorating, serendipitous, full-of-fun family vacation at the LCCA 40th anniversary Convention to be held at the Denver Marriott Tech Center Hotel during July 25-31, 2010.

You can register online at the Convention section of our website. If you’re really spontaneous, you can even walk up to the registration desk on site during the Convention and register then and there. The tours are filling up fast, but some spots are still available at this time.

Experience a train ride every day during the week. On Monday, July 25th, we’ll board the UP/LCCA Steam Train Special excursion from Denver to Cheyenne, WY. Come with us for a day-long adventure as we board the historic yellow cars of the famous UP Heritage Fleet for the ride of a lifetime. Passengers on the UP/LCCA Steam Train Special may show their souvenir ticket at the on-site LCCA store and purchase an exclusive commemorative: a 1941 Ford UP Railroad Police Car.

There is fun planned for every day!

  • Meet with representatives from Lionel.
  • Learn more about Lionel’s future product releases and take the opportunity to provide your feedback directly to Lionel.
  • See Lionel’s impressive toy train layout designed and built by T W Design of Dallas, TX.
  • Meet Denver’s local train group and run trains on their 12x20-feet SLX&CK modular layout.
  • Youths are welcome to participate in our “Learn to Draw a Lionel Train” class conducted by LCCA member and renowned Lionel licensed artist, Angela Trotta Thomas.
The train show on Friday evening and Saturday will be open to LCCA members and to the general public on Saturday, July 31st, from 9 to 3 p.m. LCCA members from all around the country will be there buying, selling, and trading Lionel trains and train-related products. If you cannot attend the entire Convention, then attend this great train show. Public admission for nonmembers is $5 per adult and children under 18 will be admitted FREE with an accompanying, paying adult.

Better yet, join the Club on site and get into the train show for free! For $30, you can purchase a one-year membership in the best toy train club on the planet. Membership benefits include access to news and info at the members-only section of the Club’s website, plus:

  • e-Track – online access for members to buy/sell/trade toy trains with other fellow members from around the country 24/7/365
  • The Lion Roars – an award-winning Club magazine mailed to your home five times a year
  • Opportunities to purchase exclusive LCCA products manufactured by Lionel
  • Interchange Track – a hardcopy buy/sell/trade publication mailed to your home four times per year as of 2011
  • Opportunities to save money on the purchase of selected previously released Lionel catalog items
Best of all, come and meet with fellow LCCA members who share your passion and interest in Lionel trains. We have FUN! The people of the LCCA are truly great people, and they make the LCCA the best toy train club on the planet!
