This year's annual convention was held on the waterfront in Downtown Pittsburgh, PA, July 23-27. Set at the point where three great rivers converge, Pittsburgh is the city of the Steelers and much more. It holds many train-related activities in the city and region. The tour programs included an Amtrak excursion to famous Horseshoe Curve as well as the Altoona Railroad Museum. There was a full day at the Carnegie Science Museum with a huge (2400 square feet) O-gauge train layout. There was the Lionel Seminar later at the convention hotel. In addition, tours to the nearby Pennsylvania Trolley Museum were offered.
This year's convention had something for everyone in the family and was capped off with the traditional closing banquet with gifts piled high on every table and a very special silent auction. The banquet was held aboard the riverboat "Majestic."
Members received some special surprises at this year's convention, including a special Lionel® registration car. Members who attended the LCCA day at the Carnegie Science Center received a special Lionel® submarine car to commemorate the day. In addition, a very special on-site car was created to honor Dick Maddox and his retirement from Lionel®.
